Mock invigilated experience (MIE) Online invigilation (proctoring)
You'll have the opportunity to do a mock invigilated experience (MIE) practice session before the actual exam. The MIEs are usually spread across three days, so you'll have a choice of dates. It's best to book as early as possible. The MIE shouldn't take more than half an hour.
The MIE will not be testing your knowledge of the module. It provides an opportunity to experience the online invigilation process, complete the room checks and ID verification, identify any technical issues, and take a short practice test so you feel confident and prepared for the real exam.
You should treat this experience as if it were a real exam and follow the guidance in Do and don't for your online invigilated exam.
Students who complete the MIE are much more likely to have a positive experience on the day of the exam.
You'll be provided with details on your module website on how to create an account with ProctorU, schedule an MIE, and how to start it. Just like the main exam, you’ll need to book it at least 72 hours in advance.
Test your equipment before the MIE
Once you have a ProctorU account, you'll see a link on the dashboard to Test Your Equipment. This will tell you if your equipment meets the minimum hardware requirements and that you have all the required peripherals such as a webcam, speakers and microphone.
The automated equipment check does not guarantee your equipment's functionality on exam day.
