Steps to prepare Online invigilation (proctoring)
We've put together a step-by-step guide of what you need to do to be ready for your online invigilated exam.
Download and install Google Chrome
If you don't already use Google Chrome web browser, you'll need to download and install it. You may need administrator rights on your computer to do this.
Download the Google Chrome Guardian secure extension
Install the latest version of the Guardian extension on Google Chrome from the Google Chrome web store. Other browsers do not support the extension.
Make sure you have all the equipment
You'll need a webcam for monitoring your workspace, speakers and a microphone (not built into a headset) to communicate with the invigilator if necessary. ProctorU lists the full equipment requirements on its website.
Have your photo ID ready for verification
You'll need to show this to the invigilator in the mock invigilated experience (MIE) practice session and on exam day. You may not be able to complete the exam if you don't have your photo ID ready.
Test your equipment and schedule a mock invigilated experience (MIE) practice session
You'll be reminded to schedule a mock invigilated experience (MIE) practice session a few weeks before your actual exam. This will give you the opportunity to create a ProctorU account, test your equipment and experience what the room checks are like. It's highly recommended you complete this process to be fully prepared for exam day.
Schedule a time slot to begin the room checks
Exams usually have a one-hour start window on exam day. You must book a time slot to start the ProctorU room checks. You'll be reminded about booking weeks in advance. You must book the slot at least 72 hours in advance of the exam.
On exam day, sign in to your module website
You'll find a link to ProctorU and your invigilated exam under the Assessment tab of your module website. Sign in to ProctorU. Make sure you're ready a good 10 minutes before the scheduled start time.
Room checks and ID verification
You'll complete the room checks and ID verification prompted by instructions on your screen. The invigilator will ensure you're not accessing unauthorised material and there is no-one in the room with you. The exam doesn't start until the room checks are done.
Start your exam
You'll be provided with instructions on how to upload your finished exam.
