Steps to prepare Online invigilation (proctoring)

We've put together a step-by-step guide of what you need to do to be ready for your online invigilated exam.

  1. Create a ProctorU account

You'll receive an email from us with a link to create your ProctorU account.

  2. Download the Guardian secure browser

Once you've set up your ProctorU account you'll be able to download the Guardian browser.

  3. Make sure you have all the equipment

You'll need a webcam for monitoring your workspace, speakers and a microphone (not built into a headset) to communicate with the invigilator if necessary.

  4. Test your equipment before exam day

Test your equipment before exam day in the same environment where'll you'll take your exam. Once you log in to ProctorU, you'll see a link to Test Your Equipment.

  5. Have your photo ID ready

You'll need to show this to the invigilator on exam day. You may not be able to complete the exam if you don't have your photo ID ready.

  6. Do the 'mock invigilated experience'

You'll be invited to schedule a mock invigilated experience a few weeks before your actual exam to complete your checks and join the online room. It's highly recommended you complete this process to be fully prepared for exam day.

  7. On exam day, sign in to your module website

You'll find a link to ProctorU and your invigilated exam under the Assessment tab of your module website. Make sure you're ready a good 10 minutes before the scheduled start time.

  8. Room checks

You'll complete the room checks prompted by instructions on your screen. The invigilator will ensure you're not accessing unauthorised material and there is no-one in the room with you.

  9. Complete your exam

You'll be provided with instructions on how to upload your finished exam.
