There are some important points you need to be aware of when taking an exam with online invigilation.
Do
- Have your photo ID ready on exam day.
- Check your module website to find out what material is authorised.
- Clear your workstation of unauthorised items such as books and notepads.
- Remove photographs from your workspace as they will form part of the recording.
- Use a room where you'll not be interrupted, and a room that doesn't have glass walls such as in your place of work.
- Make sure drinks are in a glass or clear bottle with no labels.
- Tell us in advance if you need more than one 10-minute break during your exam.
- Tell us about any medication or medical devices you need to use during your exam.
- Tell us if you wear a hearing aid.
- Be sat at a hard surface such as desk, table or workbench.
- Remove non-religious head coverings. You may be asked to temporarily remove a religious head covering to check you are not wearing earphones.
- Remove smart watches and other smart devices, unless you have an adjustment to use them.
- Disconnect additional display monitors and screen extenders, unless you have an adjustment to use them.
- Place mobile phones out of reach once you've done the room checks. You may need to show the invigilator that the device is out of reach.
Don't
- Speak aloud, answer the door or phone, unless there's an emergency.
- Smoke or vape.
- Eat, unless you have an adjustment to do so.
- Wear sunglasses, unless you have an adjustment to do so.
- Check your emails, browse the internet or talk to anyone who is not the invigilator if you leave the room.
- Play music or have the TV or radio on, unless you have an adjustment in place that allows them to be used.
- Wear headsets or headphones, or any other audio equipment, unless you have an adjustment in place that allows you to wear them.
- Print the exam paper.
Tell us what you need
If you think you need any of the items listed as part of a reasonable adjustment based on a disability, health condition, you're a carer or for religious reasons, you'll need to let us know. See Adjustments to meet your needs.
