Print at home scheme Adjustments and support available through the OU
The print at home scheme is designed to support eligible students who need printed study materials as a case-based reasonable adjustment. Once eligibility is confirmed by email, students can claim reimbursement of the costs of printing selected online study materials.
Eligibility
The scheme is available to:
- students who have shared they have a disability and have been assessed that printing at home is a reasonable adjustment
- students who already receive a print pack of online materials as a reasonable adjustment and would like to swap to print at home for a new module.
Not all modules need you to print the module material so it's not always offered as a reasonable adjustment.
For information about how to share a disability and discuss your support needs, see Steps to prepare to study with a disability.
Costs the scheme can cover
You can claim reimbursement for the following items, up to a maximum of £200 per academic year (1 August - 31 July):
- cost of buying a printer
- ink cartridges (including colour)
- paper
- use of an external printing company.
Rules for making a claim
The maximum amount you can claim in any academic year (1 August - 31 July) is £200, even if your study runs over two academic years, or you're studying more than one module.
All claims are subject to reasonable use in support of your current module. Excessive or unrelated claims may be declined. For example, if you received a printer as part of your Disabled Student's Allowance (DSA), we would not expect you to claim for a further printer. We would expect a claim for a printer to happen only once during your study with us.
Receipts must be dated within two weeks before your module starts and up to your final assessment date, or the date you request to defer or withdraw.
How to make a claim
We recommend you make a claim once a quarter, or regularly throughout the academic year. Don't wait until the end of the year.
Complete the form and upload your receipts to the form. Payments are usually made to your nominated bank account with a month of making a claim.
Options for printing
