Steps to prepare to study with a disability

If you need help with studying, it's important to share this with us early. It can take a number of weeks for us to put your disability profile in place.

Here are the steps you must take to be ready for when your module starts.

  1. Read the module description

Go back to the course description. Under Entry requirements there's a section titled 'If you have a disability'. There you'll find a link to the Accessibility Statement for that module.

  2. Apply for a Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA) UK students only

Find out what it can cover and who can apply at DSA. It can take at least four months to complete the full process so do this as early as you can.

  3. Find out what support is already available

We aim to make study accessible by providing a range of adjustments and support for all students as standard. See Adjustments and support available through the OU.

  4. Prepare to tell us what you need

Before filling in the Disability Support Form telling us what you need, read Prepare for filling in the form.

  5. Tell us about your disability

Fill in the Disability Support Form to tell us your needs. If you don't think you need specialised support, it's still a good idea to tell us as there may be other ways we can support you. See Telling us about your disability.
