Preparation Recruitment assessment centres

As with any interview, make sure you’ve researched the organisation. Including research on some of the employer’s competitors too indicates business acumen and dedication. Also keep an eye on the company’s social media activity to be up-to-date on any recent news.

You may also want to:

  • Ensure you’ve familiarised yourself with the job description. Think in advance of instances in your current or previous roles or assignments that align with the skills required in the job description.
  • Familiarise yourself with the skills and competencies that are being looked for in the role and have examples for each.
  • Research the company, their website, social media channels and business profile on sites such as Glassdoor, you'll more than likely be asked a question on what you know about the company so be prepared.
  • You may be asked to tell the assessors and other candidates about yourself. Think ahead about what you'll say about yourself, concentrating on your skills and interests.
  • Practice for the aptitude and psychometric tests. There are various free to download resources which can help you prepare. See our article on psychometric and aptitude tests for a list of resources.
  • If you’re asked in advance to prepare a presentation, practice in front of friends or family and time it to ensure you can deliver it in the allotted time.
  • Plan your route or check train or bus times and have your interview clothes cleaned, pressed and ready beforehand. Pack your overnight bag in advance for assessment centres that involve a hotel stay.
  • Finally, try to get an early night so you’re refreshed and energised in the morning.
