How the OU uses student data

The Open University collects and processes a broad range of personal student data to fulfil our legal obligations and improve services and support to students.

Only staff who need to see students’ records have access to them. The computer systems that hold these records are structured so that only members of staff with particular roles can view information.

We're committed to the data protection principles of good practice for handling information. All personal information is held securely and we will only transfer data within The Open University on a 'need-to-know' basis so that we can support our services to you.

You can read our Student Privacy Notice which explains in detail how we use personal student data.

In addition, you may want to read about how we use learning analytics.
