Potential employers Health and Social Care
Rigorous academic standards ensure that OU qualifications are recognised and valued by professional organisations and employers.
Gaining relevant experience can be vital in gaining a competitive edge in the Health and Social Care employment market.
You may be lucky enough to get sponsorship whilst studying with the OU which will probably increase the chances of your being employed by that employer after finishing your studies. Organisations like the NHS (acute and primary care trusts), local authorities, youth offending teams, residential care homes, independent health care providers and others have in the past sponsored their staff for OU study.
Remember also that many employers recruit graduates from any discipline so it is worth considering a broad range of employers.
There are a number of ways you can find potential employers. As an OU student you can:
- Read employers' profiles and view vacancies on OpportunityHub.
- Find more information related to your qualification on your Study Home page under the succeed tab, including potential employers and labour market information. Note, these sites are being continually updated, so make sure you check back regularly.
- Find tips and advice on job seeking in our Jobs and work experience section.
For us it is not so much the degree subject which is important but it is the personal skills and competencies that they develop during this time. We also look for other qualities, such as work experience … and involvement in extra-curricular activities.
