Where to go for support Developing academic English
Your tutor
Your tutor will mark and give you feedback on your assignments and is the first person to approach if you have any questions about your course or assignments. Tutors understand that all students can benefit from guidance using academic English and they can discuss options with you.
If your tutor feels you could benefit from extra language support they may refer you to an adviser from your Student Support Team.
Tutorials
Most OU tutorials take place online. However, there are also some face-to-face sessions, for example, at day school or residential school. Wherever possible, make use of the opportunity to practise your communication skills and get to know your tutor and other students.
Student Hub Live archive
The Student Hub Live archive is repository of recorded interactive sessions hosted by OU tutors. The sessions are not module or faculty specific. It provides a range of events to support students at any level throughout their entire student journey. The recordings include study skills workshops, community events, and plenty of ideas, best practices, tips, tools and helpful resources, and you'll get to hear both from guest experts and fellow students.
Other students
Studying at the OU doesn't mean studying alone. You can contact other students through online forums for your course, or through forums provided by Open SU, the OU's student association.
