This policy sets out the duties of the University and taught course students who are conducting research connected to terrorism, extremism and radicalisation while studying at The Open University. The policy covers the acts of collecting, recording, having possession and viewing on the internet Security-Sensitive Research Materials. This policy applies to taught undergraduate and taught postgraduate students carrying out independent research, such as for a dissertation module.
It is also intended to support Module Teams and Associate Lecturers by providing guidance on how students should be supported in researching these topics.
This policy does not apply to research carried out by Open University staff, postgraduate research students, research carried out in collaboration with other organisations and research by visiting and emeritus academics who are conducting externally or internally funded research at or on behalf of The Open University. Such research is instead covered by a separate Terrorism and Extremism-Related Research policy
