Student Social Media Policy

This policy explains how to use social media safely, responsibly and respectfully in relation to your Open University studies. It outlines the standards of behaviour expected when communicating online and how to report concerns about social media activity.

The policy applies to all Open University students and includes information about:

• communicating with other students, staff and the wider public on social media
• protecting your privacy, safety and wellbeing online
• appropriate online behaviour and respectful communication
• discussing The Open University and your study experiences online
• reporting harmful, inappropriate or concerning behaviour
• how the University responds to breaches of the policy

In an emergency:

If you are concerned that a child, young person, or vulnerable adult is in possible IMMEDIATE danger - including risk of suicide, please contact the Emergency Services by telephoning 999 or 112 from outside the UK.

If the individual is under 18 you must then email details about the incident to [email protected]. If you cannot send an email, call +44(0) 1908 858284 and leave a message and the Safeguarding Referrals Team will contact you during standard business hours.
