Conditions of Registration 2026/27
In March 2026, The Open University published the Conditions of Registration 2026/27.
There are some changes from the previous version of this policy (Conditions of Registration 2025/26). These are:
- New Clause A1f added to make clear that we may make changes to the modules available within our qualifications over time and you should review the assessment methods and study topics before you register for each module.
- New Clause A4.1k added to confirm you must provide satisfactory proof of your identity, if requested.
- New Clause A8.3 added to confirm how students studying as part of a Collaborative Scheme should submit complaints.
- New Clause B1.6 added to highlight possible additional fees if you have to attend an exam at a location that is not one of our established examination centres.
- New Clause B1.7 added to set out potential cost implications of completing supervised assessments.
- Clause D1.1b updated to provide clarity around copyright ownership and expectations.
- Clause D1.2a amended to remove duplicated content around bullying, harassment and sexual misconduct.
- New Section D3 added on supervised assessments. Link to further information included.
- New Clause D3.2 added to confirm that if you are studying a module that contains an invigilated assessment provided by a third party, you will need to agree to the third party's terms of service.
- New Clause D4.6 added to confirm that cancellation charges may apply for cancelled Residential School bookings.
- New Clause D4.7 added to confirm that if your module requires you to book an event with an external provider, you will be responsible for making payment to them directly and adhering to their cancellation policy.
- New Clause D5.2 added to clarify how information may be shared in response to us being made aware of a disability, health condition, or additional support need. Signposting to the new Student Reasonable Adjustments Policy included.
- New Clause E2.1m added to confirm that we can withdraw you if you have not participated at all and are therefore not engaging in your studies.
- New clause E2.1n added to confirm that we can withdraw you if we have reasonable evidence that you have registered for reasons other than to genuinely study.
- Clause E3.1c updated to clarify that we may cancel your qualification registration if you do not have an up-to-date DBS Service clearance (or equivalent).
- Clause G1.1 updated to confirm you must provide us with an email address that is unique to you and not shared with anyone else.
- Clause K1.2 list expanded to include further examples of orders and restrictions.
- Clause K4 updated to clarify that you are required to have an up-to-date and appropriate DBS Service clearance (or equivalent) and you must ensure it remains valid while you are studying your programme.
- Definitions of Module and Short Course in the Definitions List updated to make clear that WXM151 and SXM150 are included in the definition of short courses for the purposes of the Conditions of Registration (Short Courses), despite being credit bearing.
