Conditions of Registration 2026/27 (Short Courses) 

In March 2026, The Open University published the Conditions of Registration (Short Courses) 2026/27.

There are some changes from the previous version of this policy (Conditions of Registration (Short Courses) 2025/26). These are:

  • Introduction updated to clarify that for the purposes of these Conditions, SXM150 and WXM151 are treated as short courses, despite being credit bearing.  
  • Scope updated to clarify that these Conditions apply to SXM150 and WXM151. 
  • Section C1 updated to clarify that SXM150 and WXM151 have a fixed start date and you can access the course from the start date of the course. 
  • Clause C1.2a amended to remove duplicated content around bullying, harassment and sexual misconduct.  
  • Section C2 title updated to clarify that it does not apply to SXM150 and WXM151. Students on those courses are referred to Section C3 for their assessment information. 
  • New Clause C3.2 added to set out the relevant assessment information for WXM151. 
  • New Clause C3.3 added to set out the relevant assessment information for SXM150. 
  • New Clause C3.4 added to clarify that students on TG809, WXM151 and SXM150 must submit their EMA via our electronic submission system. 
  • Clause C4.1 updated with a link to the new Student Reasonable Adjustments Policy. 
  • New Clause D2.4 added to set out the withdrawal rights of students on WXM151 who are eligible for the England, Northern Ireland or Non-UK fee. 
  • Clause F1.1 updated to confirm you must provide us with an email address that is unique to you and not shared with anyone else. 
  • Clause H1.2 list expanded to include further examples of orders and restrictions. 
  • New ‘Credit-bearing’ definition added to the Definitions List for clarity. 
  • ‘Short Course’ definition updated to make clear that WXM151 and SXM150 are treated as Short Courses for the purposes of these conditions, despite being credit bearing.
