Fee Rules 2022/23 (Taught Postgraduate)
In March 2022, The Open University published the Fee Rules (Taught Postgraduate) 2022/23 for the first time.
This document sets out the rules that affect the fees, fee liabilities, Fee Refunds and Fee Credits for Students studying postgraduate modules or qualifications. The document explains the circumstances in which you may receive Fee Refunds or Fee Credits, The Open University’s Discretionary Fee Refunds and Credits policy, when you may become liable to pay fees, as well as what The Open University might do if you do not pay your fees.
The changes made:
There have been several significant changes to this policy:
- Scope Section has been amended to remove the sentence highlighting changes required to Appendix 1.
- Professional Development (PD) courses have been added to the ‘out of scope’ section.
- New Sections added entitled “Commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at the Open University” and “Safe Space Reporting”.
- Removal of sentence in A2 which refers to passing on efficiency gains and cost savings.
- Clauses D9-D10 amended for clarity.
- Clause E6 amended for clarity.
- Amendment to Clause G2.1 to remind the reader that Northern Ireland residents should refer to G1.
- Clause I2 has been amended to refer to face-to-face examinations.
- Clause I4 has been amended to include the Republic of Ireland.
- Glossary entries have been amended as follows: ‘Agreed overseas territories’, and ‘British overseas territories’.
- Amendments to ‘Further clarification’ section.
- Ap1 2.6.2 now states “You have been granted settled status in the UK (i.e. not on a temporary visa (indefinite leave to remain, indefinite leave to enter or settlement)”;
- Ap1 2.6.3 has been added for family members of a national from outside of the UK, EEA and Switzerland who have been granted a settled status;
- Ap1 2.6.4 and Ap1 2.6.5 have been added for those eligible to pay a UK fee.
- Ap1 2.6.7 (was Ap1 2.6.4) has been amended to add “or you have relocated to the UK from Afghanistan and have been granted leave to remain under the Relocation and Assistance scheme”. Bullet point c) has added clarification to replace ‘refugee status’ with ‘granted Humanitarian Protection, Stateless Person leave or leave to remain under the Relocation and Assistance scheme’, and ‘asylum application’ with ‘Home Office application’.
- Section Ap3 2.3 has been amended to reflect changes regarding the EU Settlement Scheme.
- Section Ap4 2.3 has been amended to reflect changes regarding the EU Settlement Scheme.
- Addition of Appendix 5 “Postgraduate (PG) Alumni discounts”.
