BA (Honours) Social Sciences (R23) - Qualification amendment

In February 2021, the University introduced a new named route through the BA (Honours) Social Sciences (R23). Students will be able to follow this to receive a BA (Honours) Social Sciences (Philosophy).

What students need to do

Students currently on the standard route of this qualification will see the inclusion of Philosophy modules in Module Chooser at Stages 1, 2 and 3.

If a student is already on a route, but has only completed the compulsory module Introducing the social sciences (DD102), they are able to change to the new Philosophy specialism if they wish to do so.

If a current student wishes to study the Philosophy specialism, they will need to choose either Discovering the arts and humanities (A111) or Revolutions (A113) as their next module in October 2021. Both modules will prepare them for studying Philosophy at Stage 2. A111 contains an appropriate amount of philosophy content for subsequent study in this discipline, but as it is designed as an introductory Arts module, may be more accessible for students without prior experience of study in the Arts. A113 is more demanding but contains more philosophy content.
