The University will make some changes to the BA (Hons) Social Sciences (R23) from October 2019.
A new 30-credit Stage 1 module, Economics in context (DD126), will replace Discovering mathematics (MU123) in both the general social sciences route and the economics specialism. Although Discovering mathematics (MU123) will continue to be available in other qualifications, the final time that it can be studied and counted towards the BA (Hons) Social Sciences is October 2019.
Additionally, after October 2019 Investigating the social world (DD103) will also no longer be available towards the economics specialism of this degree. Students wishing to study this module towards their specialism must begin studying it before October 2019. After this date, they will need to study two 30-credit modules, You and your money (DB125) and Economics in context (DD126), to complete Stage 1 of the economics specialism.
Any credit students have already completed in the current structure will remain relevant and will continue to count towards their qualification.
This change has resulted from normal ongoing curriculum updating. Our new module, Economics in context (DD126) will provide students with a stronger grounding in economics than the module it replaces. Consequently, it will better prepare students for study at Stage 2, particularly if they intend to take an economics module.
