Nursing qualifications (Q73 and Q74) - Qualification Withdrawal

The Open University will withdraw the BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing (Q73) and BSc (Hons) Mental Health Nursing (Q74) on 31 December 2025.

The Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) has developed new proficiencies and an Education Framework: Standards for Education and Training, which will replace the previous 2010 standards. All UK pre-registration nursing degrees must use the new proficiencies and Education Framework starting from September 2020 at the latest. Therefore, the current Open University nursing degrees must be replaced with new qualifications.

As an additional result of this change, the following Stage 2 and Stage 3 modules will also be withdrawn:

  • Principles and skills for nursing practice (K(YN)237) will begin for the final time in October 2021
  • Perspectives on health and illness (K(YN)238) will begin for the final time in April 2022
  • Exploring practice (K(YN)316) will begin for the final time in October 2023
  • Preparing for graduate practice(K(YN)317) will begin for the final time in April 2024
