The University is withdrawing one of the routes through the BA (Hons) International Studies (Q11). The final date that students will be able to claim this qualification under the existing rules is 31 December 2025.
In October 2018 we introduced three specialist routes for students who were new to this qualification. Since the introduction of these new routes, The Open University has decided to withdraw the pre-October 2018 route. The final date that students will be able to start a module that can be counted towards this qualification under the pre-October 2018 route arrangements will be October 2024.
If a student's completed modules fit one of the new specialist routes (Politics, Environment or History) they have the option to transfer their credit onto one of these pathways. This is encouraged if, for example, a student feels that they will be unable to complete their qualification before the end of 2025. If a student were to transfer to one of the new routes, it will still be necessary for them to complete their qualification within the standard University time limit of 16 years. Students can find details of module requirements on the BA (Honours) International Studies Course page.
If students are still unable to complete their qualification in the time available, there may be other qualifications that they can consider, including our Open qualifications.
