Changes to policy and curriculum

Postgraduate Human Resource Management qualifications - Qualification Amendment

The University plans to make a change to the Master of Science in Human Resource Management (F68) and the Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management (E84) from November 2019. The module Managing Research in the workplace (B865) is being withdrawn and will begin for the final time in November 2019.

Students wishing to complete the CIPD approved Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management (E84), will need to complete this module before it is withdrawn. If they do not successfully complete this module before it is withdrawn, the Postgraduate Diploma that they achieve will not be CIPD approved.

It will still be possible to achieve the CIPD approved MSc in Human Resource Management by completing one of the remaining optional modules:

  • The human resource professional (B863)
  • Human resource management in context (B864)
  • Employment relations, employee engagement (B866)
  • Workplace learning with coaching and mentoring (B867)
  • Dissertation HRM (B804)

If students have already achieved Managing Research in the workplace (B865) before it is withdrawn, they will still be able to count the module towards this qualification.

Students are strongly advised to check their planned programme of study with one of our advisers to ensure that they have selected a suitable combination of modules.

Why this is happening

The decision to withdraw this module has been taken partly as a result of a University-wide curriculum review and partly through our experience of very few students selecting the module Managing Research in the workplace (B865) to study towards their qualification. This change to the qualification has been carefully assessed to ensure that students can still have a rewarding learning experience and achieve the intended learning outcomes of their qualification.
