Changes to policy and curriculum

Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Q65) and Master of Engineering (M04) - Qualification amendment

The University is making two changes to the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Q65) and Master of Engineering (M04):

Replacement modules

The module Engineering: mechanics, materials design (T207) is being withdrawn and replaced by two 30 credit modules:

  • Core engineering A (T271) – starting in October 2018
  • Core engineering B (T272) – starting in April 2019

This change will help students spread their workload and avoid (where possible) having to study two modules concurrently.

New route

We are introducing a new route called Mechanical Engineering from October 2018 that will strengthen our mechanical engineering provision within these qualification.

There are two compulsory modules required for this route:

  • Mechanical Engineering A (T229) – planned for October 2020 (Stage 2 module)
  • Mechanical Engineering B (T329) – planned for October 2022 (Stage 3 module)

Students can choose to migrate to the new route, however the availability of these modules may affect their study plans.

This new route is not currently accredited by any of the Professional Engineering Institutions who accredit our qualifications. We will be liaising with them to pursue accreditation and will keep students informed of any updates.

Please talk to your Student Support Team if you need any further information. You can find out how to contact them on Contact the OU.
