Psychology and Law qualifications - Qualification withdrawal

The Open University plans to withdraw the following qualifications:

  • BSc (Hons) Psychology and Law (Q93) will be withdrawn on 31 December 2024
  • Diploma of Higher Education in Psychology and Law (W53) will be withdrawn on 31 December 2022

Students will still have time to complete these qualification if they study at the recommended pace of 60 credits a year.

What students need to do

Students will need to start their final module(s) towards these qualifications by the October prior to the qualification's withdrawal (for W53 this will be October 2021 and for Q93 this will be October 2023).

Alternatively, students may change their study intention and move to a different qualification. Depending how far they are through their studies, some options are:

  • BA/BSc (Hons) Open Degree (QD) - this option is possible with any combination of modules.
  • Bachelor of Laws (Hons) (LLB) (Q79) - this option is possible if you have completed or are currently studying An introduction to law (W101). No psychology modules can be counted towards Bachelor of Laws (Hons) (LLB) (Q79).
  • BSc (Hons) Psychology (Q07) - this option is possible if you have completed or are currently studying An introduction to law (W101). You can count any of the psychology modules, but no other law module can be used towards this degree.

Please note that An introduction to law (W101) can't ordinarily be counted towards the BSc (Hons) Psychology (Q07), but the University will grant exceptional permission as students were working towards a qualification that we are withdrawing. However, they will need to contact the University to request to exceptionally count W101 towards the BSc (Hons) Psychology (Q07) qualification.

Students are strongly advised to check their planned programme of study with one of our advisers to ensure that they have selected a suitable combination of modules.

Please talk to your Student Support Team if you need any further information. You can find out how to contact them on Contact the OU.
