The University has made some changes to the Postgraduate Environmental Management qualifications - these changes are detailed below:
Currently the modules Managing for sustainability (T867) and Making environmental decisions (T891) both have two start dates each year, in May and November. This is changing to a single start date each year.
Managing for sustainability (T867) will be available in May only from May 2020. Its final November start will be November 2019.
Making environmental decisions (T891) will be available in November only from November 2020. Its final May start will be May 2020.
At present there are two core optional modules available in both the Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Management (E79) and the MSc in Environmental Management (F65):
Capacities for managing development (T878) will be available to study for the final time in November 2020 and will not be replaced. This means that from November 2021 Environmental monitoring and protection (T868) will become compulsory for both the Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Management (E79) and the MSc in Environmental Management (F65). If a student wishes to take Capacities for managing development (T878) as their core option module, their final opportunity to do so will be in November 2020.
There has been an increase to the credit transfer limit from 30 to 60 credits in the MSc in Environmental Management (F65) regulations. The Environmental Management programme recognises the previous limit of 30 credits was restrictive and wish to accommodate relevant credit transfer to 60 credits.
If a student has registered on the MSc in Environmental Management (F65) with a credit transfer limit of 30 credits, they could now reapply if they have further relevant credit. Alternatively, they can apply for credit transfer if they have relevant credit and have not previously applied.
Environmental Management currently operates with a module time-based rule, meaning that students cannot use the credit from a module once eight years have elapsed since the module’s final start date.
New consumer legislation means that we have reviewed our rules and decided to no longer use module-based time rules. As a result, we are introducing a qualification time limit for these qualifications.
With immediate effect, Environmental Management will introduce an eight year time limit. This means that students must complete all of the credit towards the qualification within eight years from the date that they began studying the first module towards this qualification.
If a student believes that they will complete their qualification within eight years they do not need to take any action. However, If they've been studying towards one of the qualifications above for more than eight years, or think that they may take more than eight years to complete their current qualification, they may be affected. If this is the case, they will need to contact their SST for further advice about seeking exceptional permission to complete. Students will not be penalised by the University’s decision to change this rule.
