Academic Regulations (Taught Courses) 2016 - 2018 (August 2017 update)
Warning: the content within this page reflects the information available to students in the 2017/18 academic year. As such, this information may no longer be factually accurate.
The academic regulations relating to taught courses were updated on 1 August 2017. These changes only affect students at ‘restricted’ status, as defined in Appendix 2 of our Academic Regulations.
The changes made
- If a student wishes to study further undergraduate modules they must now apply to their Student Support Team (SST) for approval to do so. Their application should explain why they didn’t successfully complete their previous study and how their circumstances or approach to study have improved. The application can be made on the academic progress application form or students can speak to their SST if they'd prefer to send in a hard copy.
- If a student wants to study a short course, a Level 0 access module or a postgraduate module they'll now have to contact their Student Recruitment and Support Centre to register.
- Where a student has been given permission to study an undergraduate module while at restricted status and they don’t successfully complete it, they will stay at that status. They can apply again for permission to study if they believe that their future study will be successful for reasons that weren’t considered in an earlier application.
If a student is at restricted status and wants to study a taught course with The Open University again, then take account of the changes listed above and check the full details in the academic regulations.
Please talk to your Student Support Team if you need any further information. You can find out how to contact them on Contact the OU.
