Academic Progress Policy (Taught Courses)

Warning: the content within this page reflects the information available to students in the 2017/18 academic year. As such, this information may no longer be factually accurate.

In July 2018, The Open University published the Academic Progress Policy (Taught Courses), which applies to all students studying undergraduate modules at Open University first level or above.

The changes made

This document now defines:

  • What constitutes sufficient academic progress for students to be able to register or enrol for further study
  • How academic progress is monitored
  • How and when study restrictions are applied to students
  • How to apply for permission to undertake further study if a study restriction has been applied

It also presents the policy as a standalone document for the first time. The policy in a different format was previously published as Appendix 2 of the Academic Regulations (Taught Courses) from 2016 onwards (dated January 2016). The policy has not changed but the presentation has been reviewed for clarity.
