Medieval and early modern Scotland (CDDR320) - Module withdrawal

The University of Dundee will withdraw the collaborative module Medieval and early modern Scotland (CDDR320) in October 2019, which can count towards the BA (Hons) History degree (Q01) as an option at Stage 3. We do not yet know whether this module will be replaced.

What students need to do

If a student plans to study CDDR320 in October 2017, October 2018 or October 2019, they do not need to take any action. However, if they were planning to study CDDR320 after October 2019, there are a number of options available to them:

  • If a student has passed at least 60 credits of Stage 2 history modules (e.g. A200, A223 or A225) they could change the study order of their remaining modules and take CDDR320 earlier than originally planned. If they wish to consider changing their study order in this way, they must contact their Student Support Team to discuss their situation and confirm that their new study plan is suitable.
  • If a student hasn't passed 60 credits of Stage 2 history modules before the final start date of CDDR320, they will need to select another Stage 3 optional module. There are two modules which are particularly recommended at Stage 3: Empire: 1492-1975 (A326) and Europe 1914-1989: war, peace, modernity (A327). Other options are included in the qualification description which can be found via Student Home. Our Student Support Team will be happy to advise students further.

We do not know whether a new module in Scottish history will be available in the future to replace CDDR320. We are discussing options with the University of Dundee and hope that an agreement will be reached, but we cannot guarantee that any Scottish history modules will be available after 2019 and advise you to plan your studies accordingly.

Please talk to your Student Support Team if you need any further information. You can find out how to contact them on Contact the OU.
