Changes to policy and curriculum

Computing and IT qualifications - Qualification amendment

From January 2016 the “solutions development” option on the following qualifications will be renamed “web development".

  • BSc (Honours) Computing and IT (Q62)
  • BSc (Honours) Computing & IT and a second subject (Q67)
  • Foundation Degree in Computing and IT Practice (X15)
  • Diploma of Higher Education in Computing and IT (W36)
  • Diploma of Higher Education in Computing & IT and a second subject (W42)
  • Diploma of Higher Education in Computing and IT Practice (W15).

This means that what students on the solutions development pathway will notice this name change when they use Module Chooser:

Students' choice of modules and their completion dates will not affected by this administrative change. This means that no action needs to be taken.

Why this is happening

Since the original pathway was introduced in 2012, the curriculum has evolved, and following the outcome of the faculty’s market research exercise in July 2015 it was agreed the term “Solutions development” was not well understood externally. A decision has therefore been made to make this change to “Web development”, which is a better representation of the content and focus of the pathway as a whole than was “Solutions development”. There are no changes to the computing modules available for you to study as a result of this change.
