Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)(Q65) - Qualification amendment

Warning: the content within this page reflects what was communicated to students in the 2014/15 academic year. As such, this information may no longer be factually accurate.

The Open University will be making some amendments to the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)(Q65) from October 2014.

From that date, students will be able to cover the required Stage 1 mathematics in two ways: a core route or an extended route. Both routes are made up of the two Level 1 30-credit modules:

  • Core route: Discovering mathematics (MU123) and Essential mathematics 1 (MST124)
  • Extended route: Essential mathematics 1 (MST124) and Essential mathematics 2 (MST125)

Advice on which route is most suitable for you is available on our Maths for Engineering website.

We have also introduced a new route through Q65 called Mathematical methods. In addition to the compulsory engineering modules, this route includes a Level 2 maths module – Mathematical methods (MST224) – and two Level 3 maths modules – Graphs, networks and design (MT365) and Mathematical methods and fluid mechanics (MST326).

Finally, the learning outcomes for this qualification have been updated and refined to better align how we communicate the output standards of the BEng with UK SPEC (UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence) and QAA (Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education).
