Changes to policy and curriculum

BA Early Years (Q51/Q60) - Qualification amendment

The Open University has changed the way that we refer to the Early Years degree on our websites.

  • The BA Early Years (Q51) is now referred to as the BA (Honours) Early Years (Q51).
  • The Top-up BA Early Years (Q60) is now referred to as the Top-up BA (Honours) Early Years (Q60).

The BA (Honours) Early Years (Q51) is a 360-credit qualification. Students registered on this qualification are understood to be working towards the 360-credit version and there will no longer be an automatic offer of the qualification on reaching 300 credits. However, the 300-credit version of the qualification (the ‘without honours’ version) is available for those who choose not to continue with the Honours degree.

The Top-up BA (Honours) Early Years (Q60) is a 120-credit qualification. Students registered on this qualification are understood to be working towards the 120-credit version and there will no longer be an automatic offer of the qualification on reaching 60 credits. However, the 60-credit version of the qualification (the ‘without honours’ version) is available for those who choose not to continue with the Honours degree.

What students need to do

This change will not affect what or how you can study students do not need to take any action.

If a student wishes to complete the 300-credit version of the BA Early Years (Q51) or the 60-credit version of the Top-up BA (Honours) Early Years (Q60), they can request it by contacting their current Student Support Team (SST) when they have satisfied all of its academic requirements.

Please talk to your Student Support Team if you need any further information. You can find out how to contact them on Contact the OU.
